8th Annual Timmy Belcher Memorial Rainbow Kidz Ride & Run
More than 200 participants came out on a sunny Saturday morning on April 28, 2018, for the 8th Annual Timmy Belcher Memorial Rainbow Kidz Ride & Run at Western Avenue Baptist Church in Statesville.
The event, which raised more than $30,000 for Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County’s Rainbow Kidz program, featured a 5K and 10K run, three courses for cyclists and a fun run for little ones.
Adding special meaning to the Ride & Run were the medals, hand-crafted during Camp Rainbow, a summer grief camp for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Each medal bore a personalized message from the children about finding hope and healing.
Rainbow Kidz Director Leigh Ann Darty thanked all those who participated in the Ride & Run and offered their support to the grief counseling program.
“Rainbow Kidz makes sure that no child ever has to grieve alone,” Darty said. “We could not serve these children without the help of our community, and we are so grateful for all who continue to support Rainbow Kidz.”
Rainbow Kidz is HPCIC’s unique grief counseling program, and is held in schools across Iredell County. Last year, Rainbow Kidz served more than 600 children through in-school grief counseling groups, a summer camp, holiday gathering and groups at the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont. All of these services are provided at no cost to schools or families, and Rainbow Kidz relies 100% on community support for funding.
Saturday’s Ride & Run was supported by a number of community sponsors, including leading sponsors Engage2Excel, Randy Marion Automotive, Iredell Fraternal Order of Police, PSNC, Pro-Tow, Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Crossroads Cycling Company and Iredell-Statesville Schools.
